Class 14 Test run - 16th August 2009 Print

As forecast, D9524 (14 901) operated top-n-tail with a Yorkshire 0-6-0DH yesterday (16th August). With a modest total load of only 100tons, it had no problem hauling the train up the steep banks of the Elsecar Heritage Railway, and clearly had considerable power to spare. Photos of it near Hemingfield can be seen in the Gallery section. The purpose of the test run was of course to see how the loco worked under load and this threw up and unexpected weakness when a Jubilee clip on the cooling system split, causing a coolant loss. The locomotive thus had to be detached after the first run.

Postscript: To see D9524 in action, from the comfort of your computer screen, go to the "Andrew's locos on You tube" section of the Links.
