14 901 on move again Print

On the 1st July, 14 901 left Butterley for Rowsley. Reid Freight had again been contracted, with Simon driving and Will (a Foxfield Rly member) as second man. The unit was ready and waiting at 09.00 with the ramp down, and a short time later 14 901 was propelled up by the MR-B's Barclay 0-4-0DH.

The loco was winched aboard, secured down, and then Simon reversed the rig down the private road that now forms the access to the new housing developments on the former Butterley Engineering site, out on to the main road, and set off for Rowsley - via Chesterfield and Bakewell. As it bowled up the M1 from Junction 28 to 29, it was spotted by a father-and-son in a blue Transit who followed it all the rest of the way into Derbyshire.

After some 90 minutes on the move it arrived at Rowsley, squeezing over the bridge on the entrance road....

...and then setting up to unload at the "sacred spot" outside the gates.

Peak Rail's Rob Sanders was on hand with Andrew's loco "Charlie" to convey the new arrival into the Rowsley complex.

And finally the loco was shedded to await the "Anything Goes" Gala - see you there??
