Description: December 2007 and Andrew inspects D2128 at Lydney on the Dean Forest Railway. The front casing doors have been cut away and grilles fitted to afford the Deutz air cooled engine more air.

Description: Dec 2007 and Andrew takes a closer look. Although the Deutz engine is incomplete, and the VM hydraulic pump has no hydraulic motor to drive, such issues are of no concern, and already plans are being made to clear away the lot and start again.

Description: First task after arrival at Scunthorpe was to remove the casings followed by the "non-original" power unit parts. Here the Deutz V12 air cooled engine and VM hydraulic pump are lifted clear of the superstructure frame.

Description: With the power unit removed, attention was turned to the steel slab ballast which had been added in Belgium and which in part was the mounting base for the Deutz.

Description: In the event, the slab sections extracted - 10tonnes of them - were removed in the course of one day with the aid of a radio controlled HIAB. Alistair is controlling the lift as a 3tonne lump comes out. April 2009
